About

We are all noticing huge changes in our shopping habits and our daily lives.  Our normal consumption of entertainment has changed and people are less active than they have ever been.  This is thanks to the nation's new regulations based on lies and yet here we are shopping online because we have no other choice in many locations.  People are moving from shopping in person to purchasing things online and eCommerce has become a huge part of our economy.  This is convenient and also a little annoying at the same time.  This is because as a consumer I am purchasing lots more items online and it has consequences.  The consequences have been that my garage is simply suffering for space.  The extra cardboard boxes and packages are starting to really build up and I am not the only one. So many videos online are backing up my thoughts on the excess packaging situation.  We simply have too much of it.

In my home, it was an issue because my recycling trashcan was never going to be enough to get rid of all the cardboard boxes unless I found a way to break down all the packages perfectly to fit them in.  My trash company only allows us to get rid of one trash can and it really hurts because it is hard to recycle all of this in one can.  Now it almost seems petty, but I don't want to drive to a recycling location because that is just more possibility of exposure during this time.  Also, in my location that is not considered a necessary emergency so it is technically a crime and that is simply heartbreaking and unconstitutional.

To attempt to do the right thing I had to find a solution.  I first just used my hands because throwing them in one at a time only allowed me space for like four packages a week.  We are getting that many a day so that means it was simply not going to work.  That is why our garage is full in the first place. So after breaking down a few I realized this was going to give me lots of paper cuts.  I needed something that would not harm my hands because I need them for work.

We all normally go for scissors.  I got through a few more packages, but then my hands started to get tired and hurt.  The pain was a red spot by my thumb and I noticed it was about to blister.  I guess most scissors are not meant for heavy work for a long time.  Unfortunately, the pain was not going to work for me long term.

I simply had to get a knife to solve my problem. Starting off I used a folding knife, but since it was small my hand also started to get some hot spots.  So I went to my tackle box and got my fishing knife out.  This has a large comfortable handle and I ended up carving the package up to the shape of the can and fit 15 in the can in one week.  That was going to work for the long run and by being very careful I didn't get a cut or paper cut. I hope this tip helps you with your packaging issues.
